Motorists with red or blue vehicles could be in for a costly surprise, with bird droppings potentially leaving them with a hefty £5,000 bill to address paint damage amidst the skyrocketing Cost of Living.
David Edwards from National Numbers cautioned: “Choosing your car colour might seem like a simple aesthetic decision, but this data suggests otherwise.
“Bird droppings are not only unsightly – they’re also highly acidic, which means they can cause serious damage to your paintwork if left untreated. If you own a red or blue car, you’re unfortunately more likely to have to deal with this frustrating issue,” reports Birmingham Live.
A Halfords study revealed red cars attract the most bird droppings, accounting for 18% of incidents.
Edwards advised: “Many people don’t realise how much damage bird droppings can do until it’s too late.”
He recommends selecting a less affected colour, parking strategically, and swiftly cleaning any droppings as proactive measures to safeguard against costly repairs highlighted by Checkatrade, which could total up to £5,000 for a full respray and bodywork repaint.
