An elderly man has died after he was struck by a car outside a supermarket in Co Cork on Friday.

The man, aged in his 90s, was pronounced dead at the scene in Fermoy.

A woman, aged in her 60s, was also injured in the incident and taken to Cork University Hospital. Her injuries are believed to be serious.

Gardai are investigating the incident, which happened in a car park at around 11.15am.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 90s, received medical attention at the scene.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination by forensic collision investigators.

Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Any pedestrians who were in the area of Courthouse Road between 10.45am and 11.30am on Friday are asked to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dashcam, and were travelling in this area at these times are also asked to come forward.
