The McDonald’s legendary McRib burger has returned to restaurants all over the UK after an almost 10-year hiatus. The famous bun, which sees a pork patty slathered in pickles, onions and a tangy barbeque sauce, had been a classic since its 1981 debut.

Now, countless fans are heading to the fast-food chain, eager to give it a try once again. Among them is Matt at the Food Review Club UK, who went as far as saying that the McRib used to be his favourite menu item.

“Ten years out of the game, the McRib is back at McDonald’s until they sell out,” he said to his 813.9k TikTok followers at the @foodreviewclub account. “I used to love this! Let’s have a look.”

Opening up the box, Matt compared his burger to a ‘fancy Rustlers’ but wasn’t too pleased with its presentation inside the bun. Quite brutally, he said: “That looks like it was put together with a catapult from the top of a ladder. I got some interesting sort of char lines on there.

The McRib starts with seasoned boneless pork dipped in a tangy BBQ sauce, topped with slivered onions and tangy pickles, all served on a toasted homestyle bun.

“Have a look underneath – loads of sauce in there, Dan. Look at that! The McRib, 10 years, used to be my favourite. Is it back with a bang? Let’s bite into it and find out.” Matt then munched into the McDonald’s burger before pulling a few disgruntled expressions.

While chewing, he continued: “I like McDonald’s a lot, I was excited for that. It tastes more like a BBQ sausage patty, steamed and a little bit weird, than it does a Rib… Bun’s kind of nice… Tastes a bit weird, not a fan.

“McDonald’s, fair play for bringing it back but my score today: 4.5/10. Am I recommending this? Not today, kind of disappointed. McRib, not very good.” Unsurprisingly, Matt’s take racked up numerous comments on TikTok, with many fans also in two minds about the new burger.

One wrote: “Just had one and it’s nothing like they used to be. I’ll give it a 6.1 and that’s just because the box is nice,” while others insisted: “It was delicious,” and: “How on earth did it look like it’s been put together with a catapult, looked perfectly fine.”

Other fans said they were keen to see McDonald’s bring back more of its classic menu items too. One person quipped: “They need to bring back the McChicken Premiere meal – that was banging.” Another also said: “Big Tasty. Philly cheese stack chicken legend. top tier.”

If you’re keen to try out the McRib for yourself, you had better hurry. The limited-edition £4.49 product will be available only while stocks last.

Fans can also include it as part of a medium extra value meal for £6.19. Following the release, Thomas O’Neill, Head of Menu at McDonald’s UK, said : “It is more than just a sandwich – it’s a phenomenon. We have heard our fans loud and clear – the fan petitions and pleas on social – and after almost a decade of anticipation, we are thrilled to bring back this iconic menu item.

“Knowing how well-loved the McRib is, we had very little choice – we had to make it happen. It was time to step up and satisfy the cravings of McRib enthusiasts across the country.” We have approached the team for comment on Matt’s views.
