Police have charged a man after a senior was fatally hit by an electric dirt bike on an Edmonton walking bridge last week.

On Friday, at around 9:15 p.m., emergency crews responded to an injured man on the Dudley B. Menzies Bridge — the walking path under the LRT bridge next to the High Level Bridge.

The 68-year-old man was treated and taken to hospital, where he later died. An autopsy on Tuesday confirmed his death was accidental and caused by blunt force injuries, police said.

Investigators learned the suspect was riding a Talaria Sting MX4 electric dirt bike when he struck the senior.

“He then immediately fled the area without calling for help or medical assistance,” police said in a Wednesday news release.

Police arrested Johnathan Clarke, 25, on Sunday, charging him with dangerous driving causing death, criminal negligence causing death, and failing to stop after an accident resulting in death.
