Liam Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, took to social media to explain why she left the former One Direction star alone in Argentina prior to his tragic death. Liam died in the South American country on Wednesday, aged 31.

The former One Direction singer had been holidaying with Kate in Buenos Aires. He later tragically fell from the third floor of a hotel, and it is understood that Kate was not present at the time of his death.

Liam, who shot to fame in 2011 as part of the globally renowned band formed by Simon Cowell on The X Factor, was in Argentina following an appearance at a concert by his ex-bandmate, Niall Horan. However, Kate revealed in a video on TikTok that she had felt their stay in the country was becoming too prolonged.

She said: “I was so ready to leave. Love South America, but I hate staying in one place for too long and we were supposed to be there for five days, turned into two weeks and I was just like, ‘I need to go home.'”

Kate did not specify why Liam had not accompanied her back home to Florida. She shared details of her luxurious flight home, and made a joke about her seat number being “1D”, a nod to her boyfriend’s famous band.

Kate also said she usually travels with a Squishmellow, but had left hers with Liam, reports the Mirror.

Just two days after the social media post, Liam tragically lost his life in a fall from his third-floor hotel room. Emergency services swarmed the scene outside the hotel after the harrowing incident.

Police, firefighters and ambulances were seen outside of a hotel building after Liam tragically fell. Police are said to have been called to reports of a man acting aggressively at the hotel who could be under the effect of drink or drugs.

Alberto Crescenti, spokesperson for the City ambulance service, stated that the fall spanned around 40 metres leading to “severe injuries which were incompatible with life.”

In a statement, the local ambulance manager told TN: “At 17.04 through the 911 integrated public safety system, we were alerted of a person who was in an internal courtyard of the management of a south house hotel.

“At 17.11 a SAME team arrived and verified the death of this man and later we found out that he was a singer in a musical group. Unfortunately, he had injuries that were incompatible with life, as a result of his fall, so we had to confirm his death, there was no possibility of resuscitation.”
