Honda is recalling almost three-quarters of a million newer cars and SUVs in the U.S. over a recall tied to a prospective fire risk, the automaker said mid-October. The defect has to do with a high-pressure fuel pump in some of these vehicles, and Honda notes that no accidents or injuries related to the issue have yet been reported.

The recall covers roughly 720,000 examples of the Honda Accord and Accord Hybrid from model years 2023 and 2024; Honda CR-V Hybrid SUVs from model years 2023 through 2025; and Honda Civic Sedan and Civic Sedan Hybrids from model year 2025. It is unclear how many, if any, of these models are affected in Canada, but we’ll update this article when that information becomes available.

On some of these vehicles, the fuel pump may have a defective core, and so cracks may form inside the fuel pump. “During vehicle operation, these cracks can grow, leading to possible fuel leaks,” warns Honda, noting this in turn could result in “fuel smell while idling or driving; and the risk of fire, crash, or injury.”

Honda dealers will inspect affected vehicles free of charge, and, if a defective fuel pump is found, the dealer will replace it.
