Disney+ has issued a 48-hour warning ahead of a price increase set to take effect this week. The streaming giant has announced that the cost of its annual Standard plan will rise on Thursday, October 17, but there’s still time to secure the current rate for an entire year.
At present, a 12-month subscription to the Disney+ Standard plan costs £79.90, offering members a saving of £15.98 compared to the monthly rate of £7.99. However, from October 17, the annual plan will increase to £89.90, reducing the saving to £5.98.
Disney fans can still lock in the current discount if they subscribe by 11.59pm on October 16, ensuring a full year of streaming top titles from Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar and more for £79.90. This equates to getting 12 months for the price of 10 and avoids the price hike for the next year.
Disney+ has not announced any changes to its annual Premium plan, which currently costs £109.90 for a year and includes additional perks such as higher video quality up to 4K UHD and HDR, Dolby Atmos support, the ability to stream on four devices simultaneously and download titles for offline viewing. Opting for a yearly subscription of the Premium plan saves £21.98 compared to the monthly payment of £10.99 – the most significant saving currently offered by Disney+.
The streaming service also provides several monthly subscription options for those not ready to commit long-term, starting at £4.99 a month for the Standard with Ads plan. The price increase may discourage new subscribers, so it’s always worth considering other streaming platforms that offer appealing money-saving deals and free trials.
One such platform is Amazon’s Prime Video, which offers an annual subscription for £95 – £5.10 more than the new rate of Disney’s annual Standard plan. However, Amazon Prime members receive much more value for their money as Prime comes with numerous additional benefits.
Alongside streaming exclusive shows like The Boys, The Rings of Power, and hit films like Challengers, Prime members also enjoy next-day delivery on eligible Amazon purchases, free streaming on Amazon Music Prime, Deliveroo Plus, and free delivery on HelloFresh orders for a year. Sky is also enticing new customers by offering its comprehensive TV and broadband plan for its ‘lowest ever price’.
The Sky Stream, Sky TV, Netflix and Full Fibre 300 bundle – usually priced at £52 a month – is now available for £40. This deal saves members a staggering £288 over the 24-month term and includes more than 200 TV channels, a free Netflix subscription and superfast fibre broadband with speeds of up to 300Mbps.
