A Scottish gran has opened up about her romance with a 19-year-old Turkish waiter who is the same age as her daughter. Rachel McIntyre, who became a grandmother at the tender age of 35, shared her unique love story with OK! magazine in a jaw-dropping first person account.

Her whirlwind love affair kicked off in June when she noticed an ‘incredibly good-looking’ waiter at a hotel she was staying at while holidaying in Marmaris. One evening after his shift had finished, they started up a conversation and she realised just how attractive he really was.

“We got chatting one evening after he finished work and I realised how attracted I was to him – and the feeling was mutual,” she explained. “But after he told me he was 19, I backed off. He was the same age as my daughter.

“But he kept on seeking me out and flirting with me – despite me telling him that I was a granny. And a few days later I succumbed, and after that, we spent all of his spare time together and gradually we fell in love.”

Rachel accidentally became a young mum at just 15 years old in 2005. When her boyfriend of six months found out, he gave her an ultimatum of choosing between him and the baby – she chose the latter.

“I was lonely at times as I had to leave the family home, and when she reached the terrible twos it was exhausting,” she explained. “But I never regretted my choice for a second and we have always been incredibly close. And then history repeated itself and Beth got pregnant when she was 17 and gave birth at age 18 – making me a grandmother when I was only 34.”

Fast forward to now, and she’s happier than ever in an unconventional relationship with 19-year-old Seskan. In September, she even took her youngest daughter Erika, 11, out of school to go and meet him.

Although she confessed that people probably say she’s ‘making a fool of herself’ by falling head over heels for Seskan, she believes it ‘will last the distance’. She described her Turkish boyfriend as ‘kind, clever, gentle and funny’ while admitting he’s a ‘wonderful lover too’ and ‘far more considerate than the men back in the UK’.

Her faith persists even though she was ‘stung before’ after falling for the charms of a different Turkish waiter in September 2023. She claimed the 34-year-old was eager to get a visa and proposed within weeks of knowing her. She broke it off soon after.

Rachel continued: “My daughters both love him, though Beth was dubious at the beginning as he was the same age as her, but she soon came around. We’ve talked about our future together. I told him early on that I don’t want to have any more children.

“Beth and my granddaughter live with me and though I love helping with feeds and nappy changes, it reminded me how exhausting motherhood is. At least as a granny, I can give the baby back. Fortunately, he’s fine with my decision and says he doesn’t want any children either.

“I’m hoping Erika has been put off being a teen mum too after seeing how much work is involved with having a baby – my sister didn’t follow in my footsteps. But I love being a granny of one – she’s brought so much fun and joy to our lives and it makes me laugh how shocked people are when they find out – after all I’m still constantly asked for ID if I want to buy a drink!”
