Bristol electric vehicle charging platform Zapmap has struck a deal with Centrica-owned smart home tech business Hive.
Under the terms of the agreement, Hive customers will be able to charge their electric vehicles at home or while they are on the road.
The partnership with Zapmap, which is owned by Wiltshire-based renewable electricity firm Good Energy, will start in 2025.
The financial details of the partnership have not been disclosed, but the firms said they would also explore the possibility of bringing together the Hive and Zapmap apps in the future.
Dan Rosenfield, managing director of Hive, said: “We’re on a mission to help make EV charging simple and affordable. Through our strategic partnership with Zapmap and our investments in the Hive app, we are empowering EV drivers to have complete control over their electric driving experience.”
Melanie Shufflebotham, co-founder and chief operating officer of Zapmap, added: “By combining simple home and public charging, we can give EV drivers everything they need to find and pay for charging and help the next generation of EV drivers build confidence charging, wherever they go.”
The news comes days after Hive reported a pre-tax loss of £28.2m for 2023, having also made a loss of £25.6m in 2022. According to CityAM, Hive has never made a pre-tax profit since it was launched over a decade ago. Since being founded, the business has racked up a pre-tax loss of almost £600m.
