With only three bank holidays remaining in 2024, many of us are already looking forward to 2025 and the dates on which those bank holidays will fall. The dates for bank holidays shift each year, influenced by weekends or because annual holidays such as Easter move to new dates.
Unfortunately, with no major national celebrations in sight, there are currently no plans to add any extra bank holidays to the eight days we’ll receive in 2025. The next bank holiday in England and Wales is Wednesday, December 25 (Christmas Day), followed by Boxing Day – Thursday, December 26.
This means that the first bank holiday of 2025 will be New Year’s Day, Wednesday January 1. While this year’s Easter bank holidays fell on March 29 and April 1, next year Easter will be slightly later, with Good Friday being on Friday April 18, and Easter Monday falling on Monday, April 21.
May’s two bank holidays will occur on Monday, May 5 and Monday, May 26, while the summer bank holiday, which falls towards the end of the school summer holidays, will be on Monday, August 25. To conclude the year, next year’s Christmas bank holidays will be on Thursday, December 25 and Friday, December 26.
Savvy workers can plan ahead now to maximise their annual leave by booking holidays around these dates to extend their time off, reports the Liverpool Echo.
