A bridge near a Bristol railway station will undergo night closures from today (Monday, October 14) as Network Rail undertakes bridge maintenance. St Johns Road, in Clifton, will close for four nights from 9pm to 6am, finishing the work on Friday morning.
The bridge, which sits behind the Clifton Down station, will be inaccessible to vehicles during the night closures as vegetation clearance and maintenance works are underway. The closure is part of bridge maintenance works which have been ongoing across Bristol where roads have crossed over train tracks.
A notice by Bristol City Council said that the road will close between All Saints Road and Whatley Road. The night closures could last a maximum of five days but it is expected to last for the four nights.
The notice said: “This notice is required to enable vegetation clearance and bridge maintenance works, to be executed on or near the road, and will be valid for a maximum period of five days, which commence on October 14.
“However, the closure may not be implemented for the whole of the period, but only as necessitated by the works (which is anticipated to be overnight between 9pm and 6am beginning on October 14 and ending on October 18). The restriction within this notice shall apply during such times and to such extent as indicated by traffic signs.”
A diversion will be in place for all vehicles during the night closures. Starting northbound of the bridge, drivers will follow St Johns Road, Apsley Road, the B4467 Pembroke Road, Alma Vale Road and onto St Johns Road. The diversion is the same vice versa.
