Part of the M5 was closed after a six-vehicle crash left four people in hospital.
Emergency services attended the scene on Saturday with traffic being diverted from part of the motorway causing tailbacks in the area.
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said it received a 999 call at 1.12pm.
“NIAS despatched one Rapid Response Paramedic, six A&E crews, one HART crew, one non-Emergency crew, five ambulance officers and one independent ambulance crew to the incident,” it added.
“Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, four patients were taken by ambulance to Royal Victoria Hospital.”
The M5 between Greencastle and Rushpark was closed and police advised motorists to seek alternative routes while emergency services attended the scene.
“Motorists are advised that northbound traffic on the M5 is being diverted at the Fortwilliam Junction, due to a road traffic collision in the area involving a number of vehicles,” a PSNI spokesperson previously said.
“Police are currently in attendance together with colleagues from the emergency services.
“Please avoid the area and seek an alternative route for your journey.”
However, the route has since been re-opened.
