A North Devon pub is set to undergo a refurbishment after being sold to a new owner. The Fortescue Arms in Woolacombe was acquired by local hotel operator Richard Wheeler for an undisclosed sum.

Mr Wheeler, who also owns the Royal Britannia Hotel in Ilfracombe, is planning to revamp the Fortescue and reopen the venue with a new food offering, including a Sunday Carvery.

The pub, which is located within an area of outstanding natural beauty, has a bar, restaurant, a separate room that was formerly used as a family room, and a garden. There are also nine ensuite rooms and two apartments for owners’ accommodation.

The sale was brokered by specialist property advisory firm Christie and Co.

Graeme Clifford, business agent at Christie and Co, said: “The Fortescue Arms captured a lot of people’s interest, attracting nine viewings and three offers. The new owner is an experienced hospitality operator with knowledge of the local market, and his plans to revitalise the pub and to create a brand-new food offering should bring a welcome return to much busier times at this venue.”
