England fans have been left enraged after their 2-1 defeat to Greece on Thursday night, with several calling for the FA to ‘get rid’ of Lee Carsley.

The Three Lions went into the clash hoping to continue their winning start under the 50-year-old, having beaten the Republic of Ireland and Finland last month.

Yet England were rocked by Greece, with the visitors securing a famous win at Wembley.

Vangelis Pavlidis put the visitors ahead in the 49th minute, with Jude Bellingham levelling for Carsley’s side with just three minutes left on the clock.

However, the game wasn’t over with Greece winning the fixture in the closing stages following another effort from Pavlidis.

Several of Carsley’s decisions backfired on a chastening night for the England interim boss.

Phil Foden and Bellingham, who are undoubtedly two of the best players on the planet, toiled after being fielded up top.

Cole Palmer, who was deployed in a deeper role than he usually is at Chelsea, struggled to make much of an impact.

And Trent Alexander-Arnold struggled at right-back, a position he’s still relatively new to when it comes to the international scene.

Some England fans on social media have been left furious by the defeat – with a number of them calling for the FA to axe Carsley immediately.

“We have been absolutely ripped to sheds by Greece. The worst performance we’ve put in since Iceland [at Euro 2016],” said one user.

“It’s like Carsley thought he was playing Champ Manager trying to shoehorn CP, PF and Jude in. A massive pile of unbalanced mess. Hasn’t a clue what do with these players. Get rid.”

Another fan wrote: “Get Carsley gone. Nowhere near good enough.”

A fourth stated: “Consign Carsley to the scrap heap. Tactically inept.”

A fifth fumed: “Thanks for the memories Lee, back to the U21s you go! #CarsleyOut.”

And a sixth hit out at the England interim boss by saying: “Can we just get rid of Lee Carsley now?! I hate how the FA just choose the wrong guy time after time.”

Carsley, meanwhile, has admitted that his side didn’t deserve anything from the showdown in the capital.

“I think we were probably second best for a lot of tonight. It is disappointing,” said the former Everton midfielder.

“You are going to get setbacks and it’s important we respond well now against Finland.
