Police are investigating the sudden death of a child in west Belfast.

A PSNI vehicle was parked outside a block of flats in the Springfield Road area on Thursday night.

It’s understood the deceased is a toddler aged around three years old.

Neighbours have expressed shock following what they’ve described as a tragic accident inside one of the properties.

“It wasn’t until I saw the police car outside I realised it was the flats across the way,” one told the Irish News.

“If it’s true it’s heart breaking. I don’t know the family but I’m praying for them. It’s just awful.

“A real tragedy.”

Many local residents have taken to social media to request prayers.

A PSNI spokesperson confirmed officers attended the scene of “a sudden death in the Springfield Road area of west Belfast”.
