Suella Braverman has claimed far-left extremists are “out of control” after a pro-Palestinian group’s threat led to the cancellation of a speech at Cambridge University.

The former Home Secretary took aim at far-left “bullies” as she raged over the postponement of her event.

She was due to talk at the Cambridge University Conservative Association (CUCA), which she led 20 years ago as a student.

Braverman joined Nigel Farage on GB News to despair over how she was treated.

“If you’re on the centre-right, if you’re pro-Israel, if you want to talk about immigration, controlling immigration, you’re branded far-right”, she said.

“These far-left extremists are, frankly, out of control because of craven authorities and appeasement by those who have power.

“They have become bullies and they’re silencing students on campus. They’re silencing academics and they’re creating a very chilling atmosphere whereby freedom of speech is being snuffed out.”

Speaking about the incident itself, Braverman detailed: “They sent out a message inviting their members to come and protest outside the venue where I was due to speak.

“At that point, I was very keen to proceed with the event. Let me just make that clear.

“I can handle the tough and tumble of politics. As you know Nigel, a few protesters don’t faze me.

“Me and you Nigel, we nearly got arrested in Brussels earlier this year by some overzealous police officers.

“We’ve been there, we’ve done it. I wasn’t actually concerned. However, the police subsequently got involved.

“They looked into the matter and their professional advice to the organisers and myself was that there was a security risk and our safety could not be guaranteed.”
