A popular Bristol burger takeaway is relaunching this week with one big difference to its menu. Oowee, in Picton Street, had previously been a vegan burger takeaway, but will be serving meat burgers from Thursday (October 10) when it officially reopens.

The burger chain, which started in Picton street eight years ago, is relaunching with a new menu ‘that caters to everyone’ as part of its eighth birthday celebration. While the Picton Street branch will no longer be vegan, the Oowee branch in Baldwin Street will continue to serve an exclusively vegan menu.

Oowee said it decided to change the menu due to there not being enough demand to have two exclusively vegan restaurants in Bristol. The local chain decided that a menu change was needed to remain competitive after seeing several closures of vegan restaurants over the last 12 months.

As part of its relaunch the eatery will be giving out 100 free peanut butter bacon burgers on Saturday, October 19 at 2pm with local food critic, BoS Finesse, who selected the burger as his favourite. The burger, which consists of two beef patties, two slices of bacon and bacon jam, was part of the original Picton Street menu eight years ago and is being reintroduced for a limited time.

The new menu will include a selection of beef burgers, alongside both plant based chick’n and beef options, dirty fries that are both vegan and vegetarian, and a number of sides, like cauliflower bites. The Oowee Diner in Montpelier will also be rolling out a breakfast menu soon.

Co-founder Charlie Watson said: “Picton Street has been my home for the last nine years, and I’ve watched it grow into a real hub for fantastic restaurants . I’m thrilled to bring Oowee Diner back to the community and can’t wait to work on some exciting collaborations with other local restaurants. We’ve got some seriously delicious ideas in the pipeline!”
