Simon Cowell, the music mogul known for his sharp critiques on talent shows, has finally revealed his singing voice to mark his 65th birthday.

Over the years, Cowell has garnered a reputation for being stern and direct when it comes to his critiquing of hopeful singers who apply for talent shows such as Pop Idol, Britain’s Got Talent, America’s Got Talent and X Factor.

In a video shared on Instagram yesterday, Cowell sang ‘Happy Birthday to himself, showcasing his self-deprecating humour about his vocal abilities.

“That’s why I decided to never be a singer,” he quipped after his performance before he added: “I’m now at an age when you say how old you are, people clap and that’s depressing.

“However, I’m alive, I’m healthy, I’m happy and thank you, everyone, for your kind messages.”

Cowell’s birthday video garnered well-wishes from his showbiz friends in the comments section.

America’s Got Talent judge Heidi Klum wrote: “Happy, Happy Birthday Simon. Love you with all my heart”, whilst her fellow judge Howie Mandel quipped: “Happy Birthday. I bought you something so amazing I kept it for myself.”

The video was shared on Cowell’s Instagram account, and amassed thousands of likes and comments from fans and celebrities alike, demonstrating the star’s enduring popularity in the entertainment industry.

Despite approaching retirement age, Cowell shows no signs of slowing down and remains actively involved in Britain’s Got Talent, with schedules set for next year.

Additionally, Cowell has just finished filming America’s Got Talent and has been busy filming his new Netflix documentary – The Midas Touch.

This project sees him searching for the next One Direction, though reports suggest he’s been disappointed with the turnout of contestants.

Reflecting on the state of the music industry, Cowell expressed concerns about social media’s impact.

He believes it allows aspiring artists to bypass traditional record labels, potentially affecting the quality of music, leaving him to remain optimistic about the future of boybands
