There aren’t many products that are ‘true’ all-rounders, but this affordable and easily accessible product is undoubtedly one of the best: baby wipes.

They might not be your first thought when it comes to car cleaning, but one expert has shed light on why they should be a staple tool for anyone aiming to maintain their vehicle’s gleaming cleanliness priced at £1 at your local B&M.

If you have young children, you likely already have a pack of these tucked away in your car – and scattered around your house, perhaps even stashed in a few of your bags.

You may be accustomed to grabbing baby wipes to clean up a rogue juice carton that slipped from their grasp (or was squeezed with too much gusto) or whenever there’s been an unfortunate accident or upset stomach during your travels, but they can do more than just absorb these spills or keep your little ones clean.

One expert points out that the composition of the wipes themselves also makes them suitable for giving your car a quick spruce-up, both inside and out. Daniel Trock, writing for Slash Gear, explains why this is one life hack you won’t want to miss, reports the Mirror.

Thanks to the alcohol that the wipes are soaked in, any streak-causing substances will be quickly dissolved and wiped away from their surface, which means you can even safely use baby wipes on your car windows.

Trock has some savvy tips for car owners, suggesting: “For the inside of the car’s cabin, you can use baby wipes on the insides of the windows and windshield to remove any streaks, stains, or condensation dots. After you’ve wiped the windows, you can then remove any remaining moisture with a dust-free microfiber cloth.

“This works on the outside as well, though instead of a cloth, use some newspaper to dry the windows.”

They further advise giving a delicate swipe across the seats and dashboard with the same wipes to keep them looking spick-and-span but emphasise that one should employ “a light touch here so you don’t get everything soaked.”

It’s also vital to take note of Trock’s warning about properly storing baby wipes when using them in your vehicle: “Due to the fluctuating temperature in a car’s storage spaces, wet wipes may either dry out or start accumulating mould and bacteria if left for multiple days on end. Just as you care for the safety of the products you use on your baby’s bottom, be mindful of what you use on your car.”
