Liam Manning has revealed Cam Pring has sustained an injury to the bottom half of his leg after being stretched off of Bristol City’s 1-1 Severnside Derby draw against Cardiff City.

The left-back sustained the problem after a collision with Bluebirds winger Ollie Tanner, while the duo battled to win the ball in City’s penalty area. Although medical attention initially went to Scott Twine, who also picked up an issue at the same time, Zak Vyner, Max O’Leary and referee Robert Madley all shared their concern – visibly waiving to the bench for Pring to receive urgent treatment.

The incident occurred just 13 minutes into a fierce Severnside Derby contest, with a lengthy stoppage seeing the City defender stretched off before being sent straight to hospital.

While Manning wasn’t able to check up on Pring straight after the game, the Robins head coach was able to deliver an update on the left-back.

He said: “I’ve got to check in with the medical guys but he’s gone off to hospital, it doesn’t look a great one. It’s his leg, the bottom half of his leg. I just need to double check it. I don’t want to say anything until I know.

“Naturally when the game is going on I’m making decisions and then straight after I’m coming in and doing media straight away. I’ve got to check in and make sure what that is. First and foremost we hope Pringy is well.”

After looking to clear a Cardiff ball into the box, Pring was clipped by the Bluebirds’ Tanner who was looking to tap in the cross. Despite the City left-back sustaining the nasty leg injury, Manning made it clear he didn’t feel there was any “malice” in the collision which resulted in a foul.

He added: “I think so but I haven’t seen it back. I didn’t feel there was any malice in it at the time so it didn’t look like it to me.”

Ross McCrorie replaced Pring in the 17th minute as he registered his first appearance of the campaign after returning from a hamstring injury sustained on the eve of the new season.

The stand-in left-back fitted in seamlessly to the backline looking a danger when going forward and was City’s only full-back option with Haydon Roberts absent from Sunday’s 20-man squad for the 1-1 draw with rivals Cardiff.
