A little birdie informed the PSNI of an even bigger birdie causing some ruffled feathers in Co Armagh today after reports of a squatter swan at a property in Tandragee.

Police covering the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon areas revealed that “officers received a report that a new resident had made itself at home in a housing development in Tandragee and was causing a bit of a flap in the area!”

Posting to social media, a spokesperson added: “Thankfully one of our brave officers was on hand to capture the Swan in a safe and controlled manner and placed it in the rear of the Police car. Despite the Swan giving us the run around, it has avoided custody and instead been brought home to Oxford Island!”

Many online users were quick to point out the post’s obvious likeness to an iconic scene from the 2007 hit comedy film, Hot Fuzz, starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

It features a top cop from London, played by Pegg, heading to a sleepy village only to find the most pressing crime is a on-the-run swan which keeps eluding him.

At one stage, Pegg and Frost’s police officer characters are asked: “No luck catching them swans then?”

To which the reply is: “”It’s just the one swan, actually.”

One person commented on the PSNI’s Facebook post, adding: “It has “some neck on it” moving into Tandragee!”

Another wrote: “Insert Obligatory hot fuzz quotes.”
