Strictly Come Dancing’s Saturday night episode saw a tense moment when Shirley Ballas cut off Craig Revel Horwood during the live show. Wynne Evans and his dance partner Katya Jones performed the cha cha to “Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag” from Mrs Doubtfire, with Wynne embodying the beloved Robin Williams character.

In his critique, Craig declared: “I have to say the hip action really let this whole number down, it was really wooden and stiff! ” only for Shirley to counter with: “No, not at all, not at all! ” Continuing the exchange with Shirley, Craig stood firm, saying: “It was wooden and stiff! ” as Shirley contested: “I didn’t think it was wooden” leading Craig to insist: “Well, it was…” Despite their disagreement, Craig scored Wynne and Katya a respectable seven, with Shirley granting an eight, culminating in a total score of 30 points for the duo.

Earlier that evening, the audience was treated to an opening number featuring the professional dancers dressed as Minions from the Despicable Me movies, with Kai Widdrington portraying Gru, while other pros wore yellow to emulate the animated sidekicks.

Viewers were left bewildered by the opening number on Saturday night’s Strictly Come Dancing, taking to Twitter to express their mixed reactions. One viewer commented: “Not at all keen on the minions opening number. There didn’t seem to be much actual dancing going on #Strictly”, while another fan tweeted: “What a bonkers opening number! #Strictly”.

Meanwhile, someone else shared: “It’s movie week on #Strictly and that pro number to Minions was not the one” and an additional tweet read: “That opening routine was…. #Strictly.”, reports the Mirror.

However, there was also love for the routine as one person posted: “Loved the opening dance tonight #Strictly #scd”. Another entered the discussion with: “Loved that opening dance #Strictly”, and more praise came from a tweet reading: “Best. Opening dance. Everrrrr! #Strictly”, along with a viewer who wrote: “OMG THIS DESPICABLE ME OPENING PERFORMANCE YASSSS #strictly.”

During Sunday night’s show, professional dancers and the celebrities put on film-inspired performances, donning full costumes for the occasion. Unfortunately, Nick Knowles of DIY SOS fame, and his partner Luba Mushtuk didn’t hit the dance floor.

They were set to perform the Charleston to ‘Rain On The Roof’ from Paddington 2 but had to pull out due to Nick’s injury on Friday. In line with Strictly rules, they will move forward to next week’s show, hoping for Nick’s swift recovery.

This development follows the departure of Olympic swimmer Tom Dean and his partner Nadiya Bychkova, who were the first duo to exit this season’s competition last weekend.
