A dog was attacked and killed by another animal today. The incident happened at 3.15pm in Clifton Vale, Hotwells, when a larger dog attacked a smaller breed – reported locally to be a chihuahua – and killed it.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary have confirmed the incident. A spokesperson for the force said the killer dog had been taken to a kennel pending further inquiries and added it was not a banned breed and not an XL Bully.

The spokesperson added: “We were called at around 3.15pm today (Saturday, Oct 5) following a report of a large dog attacking a smaller dog in Clifton Vale, Hotwells, Bristol. Sadly, the smaller dog died.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident and the larger dog has been seized by police.”

The owner of the killer dog now taken away has not been arrested but police inquiries are continuing. The incident was reported by users of the Nextdoor social network platform. One member said: “Anyone knows what’s happening at the bottom of Clifton Vale at around 4pm? More police cars than in a crime drama.”

Another replied said a chihuahua was the little dog killed by the larger animal and said both police and Bristol City Council was aware of the incident.
