Harry Kane lost his cool with Bayern Munich team-mate Serge Gnabry to sum up their frustrations as Aston Villa claimed a famous 1-0 win in the Champions League at Villa Park.

Villa were brilliant value for their incredible win after a stunning Jhon Duran finish in the second-half while Emiliano Martinez pulled out a victory-saving save in injury-time.

But it was a shoddy night for Kane, who was largely anonymous throughout the contest on Wednesday night and did not test Martinez in the home net.

However, it might have been a different story had Serge Gnabry looked up and seen the England international in the box after a pulsating run down the right hand side.

Instead, the German tried the impossible from a tight angle to score and ballooned his effort high into the stands to the jeers of the crowd.

But drowning out the gleeful home fans was Kane, who in a rare moment of anger, lashed out at the winger and screamed at him for not passing to him for a tap-in.

As for Villa, the crowd proved the 12th man as they roared their team on throughout the contest in their first European fixture since 1983.

It was a repeat of the 1982 European Cup final, on which occasion Villa beat the odds to land victory and lift the title.

And, just like that game 42 years ago, Villa came out on top yet again.

This time, Duran was the hero when he latched onto a sublime ball over the top by Pau Torres.

Instead of taking a touch, the Colombian pulled out a jaw-dropping first-time shot to bamboozle Manuel Neuer to lift it over the top of the German.

It was his sixth goal of the season – all outrageous strikes – but this one might top the lot for the sheer technique and audacity.

And it was no less than what Villa deserved after an Unai Emery masterclass, who got his tactics absolutely spot on.

It was why the club brought him to Birmingham in the first place, for his European nous, which has seen him win four European trophies.

That might be a tough ask this season but try telling the Villa fans that while they could have taken the lead earlier had it not been for VAR.

Torres, who was rock-solid at the back, poked the ball past Neuer from a free-kick routine.

However, Jacob Ramsay was offside in the build-up by quite a margin that saw the goal ruled out.

For Kane, it was a disappointing return to England and he could not extend his fine goal-scoring record against the club having scored eight times in his previous 13 appearances against Villa.
