Noah and Olivia were the most popular baby names for boys and girls in 2023, according to Statistics Canada.

The latest information comes from StatsCan’s online Baby Names Observatory released last week.

In second place, Liam was the boy name and Emma was second for girls.

Theodore and Charlotte were third, Leo and Amelia were fourth and William and Sophia were fifth, respectively.

StatsCan says the data comes from its Canadian Vital Statistics Birth database.

“During the production of each year’s birth and stillbirth statistics, data from previous years may be revised to reflect any updates or changes that have been made,” StatsCan said.

“Due to improvements in methodology and timeliness, the duration of data collection has been shortened compared to previous years. As a result, there may have been fewer births and stillbirths captured by the time of the release. Births from the most recent year are considered preliminary and previous data may have been revised.”
