TV deals are swirling as many providers add cosy autumnal and Christmas shows to their channels. Now, it’s good news for Sky fans as it rolls out a fresh update to its Sky Glass and Sky Stream devices.

Anyone currently subscribed to either TV plan, or consumers looking to buy, can make the most of a free karaoke-inspired update. On top of the usual ‘Hello Sky’ voice-activated search function users can now sing their favourite theme tune (just imagine Harry Potter) and Sky will dig out all the relevant films and TV shows for you.

It’s certainly quirky, but a new feature that may sway intrigued TV shoppers, not to mention it is slightly more advanced than rivals Amazon Fire TV Alexa prompts. Although the Prime retailer’s range of TVs also lets users turn on their devices with their voice, even if it’s on standby mode.

Households with a Sky Stream box or Sky Glass TV in their home can test it out now, singing ‘I’ll be there for you’ (Friends fans) or ‘I’ll wait by the window for you’ which’ll be familiar to all the Gavin and Stacey fans out there – and likely in demand as we speak considering they’ve picked up filming for their 2024 Christmas special.

It’s a move Sky says will be catchy for users, as Managing Director of Sky TV Catherine Lees said: “A catchy theme tune can really elevate a TV show. Whether it’s the claps from Friends or the dramatic opening bars from Game of Thrones, they set the tone for what’s to come.

“To celebrate the nation’s love of them, we’ve created a voice search for theme tune lyrics on Sky TV, so you can have fun finding some of the best. So why not say ”I’ll wait by the window for you” into your remote to see ‘what’s occurring’?”.

If you don’t know the difference between the two the Sky Stream box is a nifty box-top that allows users to watch TV without a satellite dish and it can be plugged into HDMI-sporting tellies…often avoiding the hefty smart TV price tag. Whereas the Sky Glass TV comes with the Sky Stream set built inside, so there’s no need for HDMI ports or wires.

Anyone looking at Sky packages should know that both the Glass and Stream packages are 24 months long, so you’ll have to fix into the two year plan. Alternatively, you could look at EE and Virgin Media for other TV streaming deals.
