With just a short few weeks until the result of the Tory leadership contest, the Conservative hopefuls have ramped up the rhetoric in a bid to win over their colleagues.

The race to replace Rishi Sunak as leader of the Opposition was announced on July 5 following the party’s defeat in the General Election.

Sunak said he would remain as party leader until his successor is appointed.

Six candidates opted to stand for the leadership role: Kemi Badenoch, James Cleverly, Robert Jenrick, Tom Tugendhat, Priti Patel and Mel Stride.

Patel was voted out in the first series of votes on September 4, while Stride was eliminated just a few days later on September 10.

Regardless of who wins, the party is set for a struggle as it recovers from its landslide defeat to Labour.
