A Bristol restaurant has made the list of the Michelin Guide‘s latest additions for September. Tare Bistro, in Wapping Wharf, is the only venue in Bristol to be added to the coveted list for this month, while a talented Bristol chef has also put his new Clevedon restaurant venture on the list, too.
The Michelin Guide even urged anyone visiting Bristol and wondering where to eat to head straight to Wapping Wharf, describing it as being an “industrial-chic area by the docks” already home to Bib Gourmand restaurants and a “list of fabulous eateries”.
Michelin Guide inspectors travel throughout the year to restaurants up and down the country, adding to the Michelin Guide list those they find worthy of a place. While Michelin Guide distinctions like Michelin Stars, Green Stars and Bib Gourmands are announced at the annual Michelin Guide ceremony, inspectors add restaurants to the Guide throughout the year, and there are usually a dozen or so new additions each month.
September’s list has seen some 15 restaurants added to the Great Britain & Ireland Guide this month. Here are some of our local eateries newly among the list…
Tare Bistro, Bristol
Tare Bistro sits in a converted shipping container in the famed Cargo 2 development with views across the Harbourside, and it serves up a menu of dishes that take inspiration from local produce and suppliers, “with an emphasis on sustainable farming practices”. There’s also a diverse wine list with exciting ‘by-the-glass’ options, and local beers, ciders and cocktails.
The Michelin Guide describes Tare Bistro: “If you’re heading to Bristol and wondering where to eat, we have two words for you: Wapping Wharf. This modern development of shipping containers was already home to Bib Gourmand operations Root and BOX-E, and now you can add Tare Bistro to the list of fabulous eateries nestled in this industrial-chic area by the docks.
“It’s the new incarnation of the former restaurant Tare, occupying the same space as before but now with a sharing plates menu that offers great value at every turn. Come at lunchtime to enjoy three courses plus a glass of wine for just £30.”
Puro by Tommy Thorn, Clevedon
Tommy Thorn is the chef that has taken over Puro Restaurant, which closed in May last year after a struggle to find a chef before reopening in February. BristolLive spoke to Tommy back in April, as he was preparing for a new era as head chef at the Clevedon restaurant.
The Bristol-born chef, 28, was among the final three of MasterChef: The Professionals in 2023, while he was working at the renowned Ethicurean restaurant at Wrington.
The Michelin Guide describes Puro by Tommy Thorn as: “Tucked away beneath the Vintage & Vine wine shop and bar, you’ll find ‘Masterchef: The Professionals’ finalist Tommy Thorn and his team hard at work in this subterranean restaurant. Diners can choose between a concise seasonal à la carte and a tasting menu of elaborate dishes, but ensure you always begin with the delicious brioche and Marmite butter.
“Sensible pricing, a carefully curated wine selection and the occasional guest chef evening all add to the appeal.”
