The FA will reportedly wait until after England’s November international matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland to make a final decision on Gareth Southgate’s permanent replacement.
Southgate left his role as England manager after losing the Euro 2024 final.
His departure sparked mass speculation on who would eventually replace him in a summer that saw Jurgen Klopp leave Liverpool and several other managers being available.
But Lee Carsley was given the post on an interim basis for the September internationals with the FA prepared to wait to make a final decision.

They will want someone in place with plenty of time to spare before the World Cup qualifying campaign gets underway next year.
Carsley is said to be in the running himself having guided England to comfortable victories over Ireland and Finland earlier this month.
And it appears as though Carsley will get at least four more matches to make his case for the job on a permanent basis.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the FA want to give Carsley more time to ‘develop his ideas’ and are prepared to wait until after the November international fixtures.
It’s claimed that ‘nothing has been decided’ with other options under consideration.
Pep Guardiola is named as the ‘dream candidate’ for the FA while Graham Potter is regarded as more ‘realistic’.
Potter has been out of work since he was sacked by Chelsea in April last year but is still regarded as one of the brightest young managers in world football.
Guardiola’s contract with Manchester City expires after this season and he’s been evasive when asked about whether he will sign a new deal.

The Spaniard admitted earlier this year that he would like to manage a national team one day in the future.
“A national team. I would like to train a national team for a World Cup or a European Championship. I would like that,” he said.
“I don’t know who would want me! To work for a national team they have to want you, just like a club.

“I would love to experience a World Cup, Euro or Copa America, whatever it may be.
“I would relish that. I’m not sure when that might take place, could be five, 10, 15 years from now, but I would love to have the experience of being a manager in a World Cup.”
