A new coffee shop or café unit could be installed at a popular retail park in Bristol. The new unit, which would be 167 sqm, would be located within the car park at Eastgate Retail Park, in Eastville.

The unnamed store would contain an external area for seating and would create additional disabled and child-friendly car parking spaces within the park. The unit would result in the loss of 20 car parking spaces.

The unit would be designed for a coffee shop or a café space with provision for a “hot food takeaway element”. A bin area would be constructed as well as planters installed to improve the aesthetic of the build.

The new unit would cover some existing paved pavements which link the main retail shops with KFC. However, as part of the development, a new paved pathway would be created ensuring that easy access from one side of the retail park to the other remains.

Eastgate Retail Park comprises eight warehouse retail units and two fast food takeaway outlets. A Tesco Extra and Ikea sits adjacent to the site and forms the wider Eastgate Centre.

The application, submitted to Bristol City Council, notes that there is no coffee shop provision currently in the retail park, following the closure of the café within M&S. There will not be a drive-thru built as part of the development.

The planning application is currently pending consideration from the council.
