Manchester City scored a last-gasp equaliser against Arsenal, who had played a full 45 minutes with 10 men.

City star John Stones scrambled the ball over the line on 97 minutes as Leandro Trossard sent was off in the first half.

City ramped up their efforts after the break but David Raya pulled off a string of fine saves and it looked like they would not be able to break down a compact Arsenal defence.

But a quick corner from Jack Grealish led to some pinball in the box with seconds left on the clock, with Stones steering the ball over the line.

Erling Haaland had opened the scoring for City after latching onto Savio’s pass, netting his 100th goal for the club since his signing in 2022.

But Arsenal struck back through Riccardo Calafiofi, who bagged a screamer on his first start for the club.

Gabriel Magalhaes then put Arsenal in the lead with a trademark header from a corner to continue their great success from set piece.

Trossard was then sent off just before half-time after being adjudged to have kicked the ball away to prevent a quick City restart from a foul.

It is the second red card of its kind to have been shown to Arsenal with Declan Rice the guilty party on August 31 against Brighton.

But it was a fine rearguard performance from Arsenal after going a man down in possibly the most difficult arena.

And Arteta pulled out all the tricks with several players going down to waste the clock.

It worked, too, frustrating City players on several occasions while Pep Guardiola fumed on the touchline.

But the Catalan coach had the last laugh as City grabbed an equaliser following large swathes of pressure.

In fairness, of those who went down crocked, Calafiori and Jurrien Timber were taken off – potentially giving Arteta more injury trouble following Martin Odegaard’s recent woes.

City had their own troubles, as well, with Rodri going off injured after just 21 minutes with a potentially serious knee injury.

Losing the Spaniard, as well as Kevin de Bryuyne, could be huge for City, whose game-plan largely revolves around the duo.
