Sure, it gets cold in the winter in Edmonton, and we don’t get all of the biggest concerts (sorry, local Swifties), but as people who live here can attest, it’s a pretty good place to be.

And, if you ask the best hockey player in the world, he’d agree.

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid, speaking to the media Tuesday at Rogers Place, was asked about players, such as teammate Leon Draisaitl, locking in long contracts in the City of Champions, or wanting to move here from elsewhere, talked up the hockey culture and the facilities. But that’s not all Edmonton has going for it.

It’s a pretty easy place to live.

“And for people who haven’t experienced Edmonton and don’t know Edmonton, it’s really easy living, it’s convenient living,” McDavid said.

“There is no hour-long drive, there’s no traffic. The construction could be better but … it’s really convenient living. It’s stress-free living. It checks a lot of boxes for a lot of guys.”

And yes, he gets that he’s here to do a job, so not being a big hotspot isn’t the drawback some people may think it is.

“It’s not the beach or beautiful weather all the time but we’re here to play hockey and be a part of something and guys want to do that,” he added.

The comments caught a lot of attention on social media.
