US Open star Frances Tiafoe was blown away by Roger Federer’s shock appearance at Flushing Meadows this week.

The tennis superstar hung up his racket two years ago but he is still a lover of the sport.

And the 20-time Grand Slam winner was in New York to watch Tiafoe take on Grigor Dimitrov in the US Open quarter final.

The 43-year-old looked his usual suave self, wearing a navy blue ensemble with a blazer with a similar coloured crew-neck T-shirt underneath.

After beating Dimitrov in four sets, Tiafoe was more blown away by Federer in the stands than his own performance.

“The way he looked in the suites was the same way he looked when he was playing,” the American said.

“No sweat. Tee’s ironed perfect. What’s up with this dude, man?

“Hair perfect. What a guy. What a legend.”

It was Federer’s first appearance at Flushing Meadows since 2019, having missed out on the chance of a grand farewell as a result of injuries.

Meanwhile, Tiafoe has reached the semi-final where he will face countryman Taylor Fritz on Friday.

“It’s the biggest match of me and Taylor’s life,” the 26-year-old said.

“We’ve known each other for so long. I’ve been playing against him since (14-and-under tournaments).

“So to be able to play him here… is going to be awesome. I know we’re two Americans but I hope you’re all with me come Friday.”

It means that there will be an American man in the US Open final for the first time in 18 years – and he could face a Briton.
