Sky Sports pundit and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has given Casemiro a grim assessment after his performance on Sunday.

The Brazil international was hooked at half-time against Liverpool on Sunday as Manchester United crumbled to defeat.

Casemiro had a torrid 45 minutes after being guilty of two errors that saw Luis Diaz put the Reds two up at Old Trafford.

And Erik ten Hag did not hang about, subbing him off for debutant Toby Collyer, 20.

Speaking on Sky Sports commentary, Gary Neville and Carragher spoke about the former Real Madrid star and the latter had six words for the midfielder.

“Leave football before football leaves you,” he announced live on air, telling Casemiro to call it a day.

Neville added: “That feels a big moment [Casemiro’s replacement].

“I don’t know how that conversation has gone at half time when Ten Hag has hooked Casemiro in front of all his team-mates.

“I don’t think he would have brought him off for the two mistakes.

“I think it was what happened after that and the reaction of the crowd, I feel for him.”

Casemiro was not only guilty of making some glaring errors, it was his lack of recovery that sent warning signs to the Old Trafford dugout.

It looked like the occasion had got the better of the 32-year-old, which might be surprising considering he has five Champions League titles under his belt.

But the midfielder has looked lacklustre for some time at United while new signing Manuel Ugarte watched on from the stands.

United’s loss means they have just one win and two defeats in the Premier League this season.

Having been backed in the transfer window and given a new contract, the pressure might be ramping back up on Ten Hag.

There were rumours that the Dutchman would be axed at the end of last season but he appeared to stave off the sack by winning the FA Cup.
