Scott Sinclair has insisted that Bristol Rovers cannot “dwell” on their 5-0 thrashing at Lincoln City on Saturday as they look to pick up the results needed to secure League One survival over the final weeks of the season.
After two stunning home wins over play-off chasers Huddersfield Town and Bolton Wanderers, Rovers were then dealt their heaviest defeat of the campaign, losing 5-0 away at Lincoln for the second consecutive season as their terrible record on the road this season continued.
The Gas weren’t done any favours elsewhere either with their main rivals in the relegation battle Burton Albion picking up a win away at Shrewsbury Town, cutting their advantage to six points.
Speaking post-match, the Rovers captain reflected: “Yeah, it’s just a really difficult afternoon. I think when the second goal and the third goal goes in, heads start to drop, but it was a really, really difficult game. We can’t dwell on it.
“I think we’ve been on a good run the last few games, beating Bolton and Huddersfield. I think the lads there give everything and it’s been a good couple of games but we’ve just got to keep going.
“For us it’s to go into the next game and to keep picking up the three points. I think with nine games left that’s all we can do.”
Prior to the Lincoln defeat, Rovers had taken seven points from a possible nine having picked up a rare away result at Shrewsbury Town, drawing 0-0. That points haul allowed Inigo Calderon’s side to open up a more comfortable-looking gap above the relegation zone.
Although the task at hand is certainly nowhere near done with nine matches still remaining, th Gas are still very much in control of their own fate.

Now, they face two huge matches against fellow strugglers, heading to Crawley Town this weekend before hosting Mansfield Town a week later.
“We’ve got important games going on,” Sinclair insisted. “So the Crawley [game] and then Mansfield and we’ve just got to keep going.
“I think once we’re back into training, we settle down and we look at all the mistakes and the positives out of the game, and like I keep saying, we’re just moving onto the next game and getting three points.”
Asked if he or his teammates look at the league table after every game though, the experienced winger added: “ Oh no. Not at all. I think for us it’s just to keep looking forward. We don’t need to be looking behind us. If we win our games, then we’ll be fine.”
