Tare Bistro has today announced that it has closed with immediate affect (Monday, March 17). The harbourside bistro in a converted shipping container was one of a number of venues from the Tare Team at Wapping Wharf.

Taking to Instagram on Monday morning, the team at the Cargo 2 venue said: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the immediate closure of Tare Bistro. We want to extend our deepest gratitude to all of our guests, friends, suppliers and colleagues who have shared meals, memories and produce with us over the years. Your support has meant the world to us.

“All staff have new positions lined up, all suppliers have been or are in the process of being paid and our rent is up to date. We’ve done our very best to act responsibly in what are difficult financial circumstances.”

This news comes almost a year after the Tare Restaurant – the brand’s fine dining eatery at Wapping Wharf – announced its shock closure in April 2024. Tare Bistro opened in October 2023 as a sister business to the restaurant.

Then back in November, the Tare team opened a brand new Tare Bar venue in the restaurant’s former home, which sits just metres away from Tare Bistro. There is, as of yet, no confirmation as to the future of the Tare Bar. The bar’s Instagram page doesn’t seem to be available at time of writing.

BristolLive has contacted the Tare Team for more information on this. Back in August 2024, BristolLive reported how the Tare Bistro was one of the Top 100 local restaurants in the UK as named by The Good Food Guide.

And a month later, the Bistro was added to the Michelin Guide, which described the venue by saying: “If you’re heading to Bristol and wondering where to eat, we have two words for you: Wapping Wharf. This modern development of shipping containers was already home to Bib Gourmand operations Root and BOX-E, and now you can add Tare Bistro to the list of fabulous eateries nestled in this industrial-chic area by the docks.

“It’s the new incarnation of the former restaurant Tare, occupying the same space as before but now with a sharing plates menu that offers great value at every turn. Come at lunchtime to enjoy three courses plus a glass of wine for just £30.”
