Several sets of roadworks will begin this week as long projects and short disruptions take place on the road network. Across Bristol and the wider region, schemes will take place over the next week to repair roads, let necessary work take place or to make the road safer during an event.

Some of these roadworks are only estimated to take a few hours to complete, whilst others form part of months-long schemes which will go very much noticed. Each set of roadworks will take place at different times, such as at night, whilst longer projects are often phased to minimise disruption.

We have rounded up some of the roadworks projects that will begin this week across the region. All information is correct at the time of writing.

The A432 Badminton Road overbridge, which crosses over the M4, will be demolished this weekend after being closed for nearly two years. Between Friday (March 21) and Monday, the nearly 60-year-old bridge will be removed.

Pedestrian and cycle access over the bridge was removed almost two weeks ago. This means the bridge is currently unusable since concrete was found to be cracking and damage to the post-tensioning system was discovered.

The footpath was closed off from March 7 meaning the bridge is now completely out of use.

The M4 will close for a 59-hour period whilst work takes place. The M4 will close in both directions between junction 18 (for Bath) and junction 19 (for the M32) from 7pm on Friday until 6am on Monday.

A diversion will be signposted during the demolition. The new overbridge will be built over the coming year and is hoped to open in March 2026.

The B3130 Bristol Road will close between the village club and an unnamed lane a few metres to the east. Despite the road closure being metres in length, a diversion of 15 miles will be in place during the closure, on Saturday, March 22 and Sunday, March 23.

The diversion will see drivers go through Wraxall, Nailsea, West Hill, Failand, Ashton Vale, around Long Ashton and back into Wraxall.
