Porn star Rae Lil Black has ditched the smut business and converted to Islam.
The 28-year-old Japanese-born adult thespian told media outlets in Malaysia that her conversion was a result of personal reflection and a desperate search for inner peace.
The former adult film star — whose real name is Kae Asakura — wants her life to be one of faith, purpose and devotion. She said her religious journey began last August during a visit to Kuala Lumpur.
Asakura said she wanted to visit local mosques and speak with the faithful.
“And they were so, so nice to me. They welcomed me with open arms,” she said on a Singapore podcast. “So I was like, ‘OK, these people are so nice. Why don’t I try to understand their culture?’”
This year was her first Ramadan. Some fans suggested she was breaking her fast.
“I’m taking care of my business, I am putting my pure intention to Allah. So do not worry about me. Please focus on your life.”
On the podcast, she denied she was still creating sexxx-rated cinema. Those films were released online with some of them filmed years ago.
“Once I’m done (filming), they have the rights to publish whenever,” she said. “So some videos are still not published yet, from years ago.”
Asakura said she was overwhelmed when she converted. Many Muslims did not judge her raunchy past and she was given dates, books and a prayer mat from Mecca.
“I cried a little bit because people are so supportive, and they don’t judge,” she said.
During her porn career, she starred in nearly 100 sex films, with titles including Public Sex Adventures 19, and Threesome Fantasies 13.
However, despite her fame and financial stability, Asakura felt a void in her life and began questioning her purpose. She told the podcast she went to Malaysia for a break and to enjoy the culture and cuisine but she found something else.
A chance encounter with an old friend who converted to Islam put her on her current religious path. Inside a local mosque, she was struck by the worshipper’s serenity.
Back in Tokyo, she began reading the Quran and listening to lectures. Last October, she posted a video on TikTok of herself wearing a hijab and dressed modestly.
Some fans were skeptical of her newfound faith given the porn world’s penchant for gimmicks. She remains steadfast and posted at the beginning of Ramadan.
“I hope we’ll all have a beautiful whole month of being close to Allah, and also being close to your loved ones, family, brothers and sisters,” she wrote on social media. “I’m very excited. I hope God and you guys will give me the strength to go through this month. Ramadan Mubarak.”
But there has been a downside: On her social media platforms she has lost hundreds of thousands of followers.
She has now removed all of the adult content from her social pages.
