Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has provided his verdict following his side’s 2-0 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

Spurs entered the match looking to build on their impressive Europa League victory over AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night.

But that didn’t happen in west London, with Rodrigo Muniz and Ryan Sessegnon netting to consign their rivals to a 15th defeat of the Premier League season.

The nightmare result will raise more questions over Postecoglou and his suitability to the job.

With Tottenham 1-0 down, they were denied a penalty when Lucas Bergvall went down inside the box after a tackle from Calvin Bassey.

Yet Postecoglou, when asked about the incident, refused to criticise the decision not to award the spot-kick.

“I’ll leave that to the officials, but it does seem that the fact we don’t carry on hurts us at times,” said the Australian.

“It was a difficult game. I don’t think any team created too many openings.

“We probably had the best one at 0-0. Like I said, we conceded a soft goal that gave them the advantage.

“We made a lot of changes today which I felt might help the team. It’s our challenge between now and the end of the season. European football and league games.”

When quizzed further for his thoughts on the match, the former Celtic boss added: “It’s a disappointing outcome. I thought up until they scored we were really on top of them.

“It was a tight game and we hadn’t made a save at that point and they scored a really soft goal. Then the game got away from us. It’s disappointing.

More to follow.
