The management of a newly-opened Scarborough restaurant says it is “heartbroken” following a mass shooting earlier this month, but “relieved” nobody lost their life.
Three masked gunmen opened fire inside the Piper Arms pub on Progress Ave. near McCowan Rd. at approximately 10:40 p.m. on March 7, injuring 12 people.
The shooting occurred across the street from the Scarborough Town Centre in what was formerly a Baton Rouge Grillhouse and Bar location.
“We are heartbroken over what happened at our Scarborough Town Centre location on what was supposed to be a special opening night for our team and the community,” reads a message on the restaurant’s Instagram account on Saturday.
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected, and we’re incredibly grateful to first responders and law enforcement for their quick response.”
The pub’s owners said they are cooperating fully with authorities as the investigation by Toronto Police continues.
“The safety of our guests and staff remains our top priority,” the eatery added.
Police said the ages of the victims ranged from their 20s to mid-50s. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening at the time of the shooting despite six people suffering from gunshot wounds while the other six had cuts from broken glass.

“This kind of violence has no place in our community,” the pub continued. “Piper Arms has always been about bringing people together, and we are committed to creating a welcoming and safe space for everyone.”
The pub said it is grateful for the support from customers, staff, and the community.
“We appreciate the trust you’ve placed in us and remain dedicated to serving our community with the same hospitality and care that define us,” the restaurant wrote.
Investigators have yet to reveal a motive for the shooting.
