Fury has erupted after a senior NHS doctor went on an antisemitic rant and spouted racist abuse against Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
Aqeel Jamil, a consultant gastroenterologist at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, took to his social media accounts to make hateful remarks, including accusing Israel of helping Hamas commit the massacre of Jews on October 7, 2023.
He said: “1,000 Israeli cameras on Gaza and they didn’t see 7/10 coming? Israel helped it happen to justify genocide.”
He added: “There is no such thing as Israel, pathetic country that needs America to protect it.”

Writing on X, the doctor claimed: “there is no such thing as Israel” and that “Israelis are all fascists”.
On his Facebook, Dr Jamil posted a photoshopped omaha of the star of David – a Jewish symbol – with its six points labelled with the words: Lie, Kill, Cheat, Rape, Steal and Cry.
Last April, commenting on then Shadow Foreign Secretary David Lammy’s response to the Israel-Hamas war, he wrote on social media: “Monkey bought by Zionists.”
After The Daily Mail exposed Dr Jamil’s comments, Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust launched an investigation this weekend.

The Chief Medical Officer for Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, Dr John Knighton, said: “We will be fully investigating the concerns that have been raised and will take all the necessary and appropriate actions.”
The General Medical Council last night said it was looking into the doctor’s remarks “as a matter of urgency”.
Commenting on the doctor’s words, Health Secretary Wes Streeting said: “I am utterly appalled by these vile racist posts.”
Alex Hearn, the co-director of Labour Against Anti-Semitism, who alongside journalist David Collier helped expose Dr Jamil’s comments, said: “Shockingly, our investigations show that extremism and hate against Jews expressed by GMC-registered medical professionals is widespread.”

The UK’s trade envoy to Israel, Lord Austin, said: “Decent people will want to hear that this doctor has been sacked.”
Dr Jamil claimed he had nothing against Judaism, saying he has Jewish friends.
When asked if he regretted his comment about Lammy, he said: “Yup. Completely.”
It comes as the NHS has been facing an unprecedented rise in antisemitic incidents.
Last December, in response to rising incidents, Health Secretary Wes Streeting called on regulators to strike-off doctors who brought radical views on Gaza into the workplace.
