Mayo take the lead on the buzzer

Jordan Flynn takes advantage of the new rule, allowing the last play to continue after the hooter.

Ryan O’Donoghue showed brilliant composure to set him up and Flynn’s finish was equally sublime.

Mattie Ruane has kicked four from play, one as good as the next, in a fine individual display.

Derry kick four points in a row, then Mayo respond with four of their own

Shane McGuigan, Niall Loughlin and Padraig McGrogan are on target before Patrick McGurk hits another fine score for Derry.

Ryan O’Donoghue responds with a two point free before Aidan O’Shea punches a score over. O’Donoghue kicks another from play then to level the game up.

Another injury concern for Derry as their replacement goalie Neil McNicholl is down after backing into the crossbar in his bid to reach Ryan O’Donoghue’s last point. He’s back up and is playing on.

What a goal from Derry.

Dan Higgins catches Odhran Lynch’s long kick-out, leaping high into the sky. He finds Patrick McGurk who moves at pace, playing a quick one-two with Niall Loughlin.

The young half back finishes expertly to score the game’s first goal.

Tight at the top and bottom of Division Two

Today will have a big say as regards promotion with Monaghan travelling to Meath and Roscommon hosting Cavan.

Cork’s clash with Louth has even bigger bearings with the loser staring Tailteann Cup football in the face this summer.

Relegation bound?

Paddy Tally admits a lot will have to go in Derry’s favour to avoid relegation from Division One. They need to win their last two games, with other results going their way to avoid the drop.

But the Derry manager says today’s clash with Mayo is all about performing well in front of their home crowd in Celtic Park.

“Things would have to fall for us in a lot of ways [to avoid relegation.] For us, today is about a performance, and getting the best out of ourselves in front of the Derry supporters.”

It’s a disappointing day for Leitrim’s football fraternity as they were unable to field a team for their Division three clash with Fermanagh, leading to its cancellation.
