Torontonians will be seeing a lot of green this weekend.

The 36th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade is set to take place rain or shine beginning at noon on Sunday.

The parade will move east along Bloor St. W. from St. George St. to Yonge St. before the procession continues south along Yonge St. to Dundas St.

“The St. Patrick’s Parade is the biggest celebration of Irish culture in Toronto and among the largest in the world,” St. Patrick’s Parade Society of Toronto Chair Shaun Ruddy said in a statement. “Canadians of Irish heritage and Irish immigrants are well represented alongside thousands more who enthusiastically become ‘Irish for the day.’”

The parade will feature Celtic-themed floats, marching bands and street performers and is free to attend.

Conservative MPP Caroline Mulroney, who represents York-Simcoe at Queen’s Park, is the Honorary Grand Marshal of the parade.

Members of the Toronto Professional Firefighters Association will be collecting money and canned goods along the route in support of the Daily Bread Food Bank.

Road closures begin at 9 a.m. and will affect Bloor St., Yonge St., and Queen St. along with a number of secondary roads that will either be fully or partially closed.

Toronto Police say the public should anticipate traffic disruptions in the area surrounding the event and to plan their routes in advance.

A number of TTC routes along the parade route will be disrupted as well.
