RCMP said it became aware of an “unfolding incident” on Blackcomb Mountain involving an “unresponsive female” just after 10 a.m. on Thursday.
The woman was discovered by a person riding the Blackcomb gondola who informed Whistler Blackcomb ski patrol, said police.
The patrollers found the woman and tried to resuscitate her. She was taken to the base of the mountain where paramedics were waiting.
Despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead upon arrival at a clinic.
“We are deeply saddened by what transpired today,” said Whistler Blackcomb COO Belinda Trembath in a joint statement with Sea to Sky RCMP. “Incidents of this nature are felt by all of us, and Whistler Blackcomb’s sympathy and support are with the guest’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”
RCMP have not said whether the woman’s death is considered suspicious. It is investigating the death along with the B.C. Coroners Service and asks anyone with information to contact police.
