Wayne Boyd says he is ‘absolutely delighted’ to be returning to his ‘extended family’ at United Autosports to spearhead their push for success in this season’s European Le Mans Series.
The Templepatrick driver left the Wakefield-based team at the end of 2023 after it announced it would be scaling back its efforts in LMP3, with this forcing the 34-year-old to try and find another seat.
He eventually penned a contract with fellow English squad Nielsen Racing to partner Tony Wells in the Michelin Le Mans Cup, with the pair achieving a best result of second place at the final round in Portugal.
However, Boyd always made it clear that United Autosports is where his heart lay; they signed him back in 2016 and he went on to represent them at some of the biggest race events, including the Le Mans 24 Hours.
“I am absolutely delighted to be back with United Autosports,” said Boyd, who completed a successful pre-season test in the McLaren GT3 EVO with new co-driving team-mates Michael Birch and Garnet Patterson at Circuit Paul Ricard in the south of France last week. “United Autosports is my extended family and I am looking forward to representing them again.
“Driving the McLaren for such a successful team in a high-level series is incredible and I firmly believe that Michael and Garnet and I will be a super strong line-up, and we will be fighting for the championship. Thank you to the team for having me. I cannott wait to get going,” he added.
The Official Prologue will lift the curtain on the 2025 European Le Mans Series before the opening round in Spain – the 4 Hours of Barcelona on April 6th – gets things underway proper.
This is followed by visits to Le Castellet in France (May 4th), Imola in Italy (July 6th), Belgium for the 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (August 24th), Silverstone in England on September 14th, and finally Portugal’s western Algarve for the 4 Hours of Portimão on Saturday, October 18th.
FIA gold-rated driver Boyd has already given a glimpse of what can be expected of him aboard a LMGT3 car after he narrowly missed out on a top three result at December’s Gulf 12 Hours. Fourth place at the endurance meeting came at the controls of Ferrari’s all-new 296 GT3 Evo.
