A top dermatologist has shared the affordable product she advises all her clients to use, praising its budget-friendly £5 price tag.
It can be quite the task to find skincare products that are suitable for your skin type, especially as what’s effective or even seems like a miracle worker for one person might lead to issues for another. People often seek guidance on social media from beauty enthusiasts and professionals alike on various topics concerns.
Enter Dr Aamna Adel, a London-based dermatologist registrar with expertise in skin and hair care. She’s built a decent following on TikTok thanks to her straightforward and consistent advice; delivering her expert knowledge on a variety of skincare, beauty, and hair woes.
Some people believe that a higher price point reflects a better quality of product but Dr Adel took to TikTok to challenge this assumption. In a popular video, she can be seen browsing the shelves at high street favourite, Boots.
In the footage, the person behind the camera asks: “Dr Adel, what’s a product you wish more people knew about?”
To which Dr Adel responds: “Do you know what? I’ve got such a good product for you. This is the moisturiser that literally every single dermatologist in the UK recommends and it only costs £5.”
The expert showcased a bottle of Cetraben Cream, which is touted as “the No 1 GP recommended cream in the UK*” on the Boots website. Known for its soothing and moisturising qualities, it’s said to provide instant hydration from the first use.
The product is ideal for individuals with “dry, itchy and eczema-prone skin”, as it’s designed to lock in moisture while protecting against irritants and water loss. It has also earned the distinction of being the “first eczema-prone skin care range to be approved by the British Skin Foundation.”
Dr Adel praised the cream, saying: “I honestly cannot believe that more people do not talk about this product. It is the most basic moisturiser you can come across in Boots – it’s not pretty, it’s not got the fancy packaging or the aesthetic but is this a good moisturiser that’s going to keep your skin soft, hydrated, nice and plump? 100% yes.”
Commenting on its affordability, the dermatologist noted: “I think, you know, at this price point, you genuinely cannot go wrong. So, if you are broke but you want to have good skin, she [the product] is your girl.”
Currently, a 50ml bottle of Cetraben Cream is priced at £4.84 in Boots.
It is always best to perform a patch test when trying new skincare products to ensure compatibility with your skin type. Apply a small quantity of the product to a discreet area, such as the inner elbow or wrist, and leave it for 24 hours to monitor for any allergic reactions or sensitivities.
If you encounter an adverse reaction, such as itchiness, burning, or your skin starts to flake, it’s crucial to stop using the product.
