Police and officials at the Calgary International Airport on Wednesday afternoon were dealing with a security incident at the city’s air hub that ended in the afternoon.

Details on the situation were limited but reports stated it involved a WestJet flight, though the Calgary Airport Authority said nobody was in imminent danger amid a large police presence.

“The Calgary Airport Authority appreciates the patience of our guests, staff and partners as authorities responded to a security incident at YYC Calgary International Airport today. While the investigation is ongoing, there is no active threat and airport operations remain steady with minimal impact to travellers,” the authority stated late in the afternoon.

“We share a heartfelt thank you to first responders, law enforcement and airport staff for their swift response and commitment to safety. We will continue to support the RCMP and CPS in their investigation.”

RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney said Mounties were collaborating with Calgary police to handle the incident but offered no details.

“We are taking all necessary steps to ensure public safety. As the matter is ongoing, no further details are available at this time,” Slaney said in an email.
