A National Lottery winner has shared her generous plans to share her prize with her local community.

Ranmal Punja Odera – a shopkeeper at Smokers Paradise newsagents in Billericay – was handed her winnings by the lottery’s operator, Allwyn.

Now, she intends to use the cash to pay for elderly customers to afternoon tea.

This act of kindness will contribute to her already abundant generosity as she often takes her customers out for brunch and dinner.

Odera managed to bag the prize by taking part in Allwyn’s quarterly draw which hands out winnings to National Lottery retailers across Britain for boosting their ticket sales.

Part of the retailers’ task is to ensure scratch card dispensers are full, maintaining the availability of play slips and looking after up-to-date signs for the lottery in the store.

Every store is assessed by the operator, which then awards those that achieve high scores.

Odera said: “My husband and I are big charity people and that’s why we always make sure we do everything to maximise National Lottery sales and our shop’s contributions to National Lottery Good Causes.

“I worked for the NHS for years, and now I support the community and our customers.

“I often take our elderly customers out for brunch and dinner, so I will use the money to treat them to a nice afternoon tea and also give a little to a charity.

“Then the rest could go towards a holiday.”

Stores support the National Lottery’s aim to raise over £30million each week to back community projects to combat issues such as global poverty and homelessness.

By 2030, the Community Fund will distribute at least £4billion to make communities more “resilient”, “inclusive and environmentally sustainable”.
