A popular monthly market in South Bristol is getting bigger and more frequent, with organisers switching to weekly events later this summer. The Windmill Hill Market has been a big hit since it was set up at Windmill Hill City Farm in 2022.
But now it is set to get bigger, with a new location. The first market of 2025 will take place on Saturday, April 5, with a change of location within the city farm site.
All the stalls will move to the front gardens of Windmill Hill City Farm, keeping the farmyard itself peaceful for the animals there. The new site will mean more stalls too, with organisers promising everything from handcrafted homeware and indie jewellery stalls to prints, handmade soaps, slow fashion, exotic plans and local foodie treats.
The revamped market will also have streetfood traders and local beer from the Bruhaha taproom, which recently moved to a new home near the City Farm’s theatre space. The first market on April 5 coincides with an open weekend at BV Studios, opposite the entrance to the City Farm and the market.
BV Studios was created in 2010 inside a converted warehouse, to provide studios for more than 125 artists and creatives, including painters, sculptors, ceramicists, illustrators, textile designers, weavers, filmmakers, framers, upholsterers, digital artists, animators, writers, performers and installation artists. The BV Studios open weekend begins on Friday April 4, running between 6pm and 9pm, and then both Saturday and Sunday, between 10am and 5pm.
“Last year, this dream team-up between the market and BV Studios open weekend saw thousands of visitors soaking up the vibes, discovering unique treasures, enjoying delicious food and drink and meeting the city’s most talented artists and makers,” said a spokesperson for the market. The market will run monthly in April and May but from the first June market onwards – on Saturday, June 7 – it will be weekly.
