Traffic is slowly being released past the scene on the M1 northbound following the lorry fire, although the carriageway remains closed.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue said: “The fire involving a lorry on the M1 northbound between junction 28 and junction 29, near to Tibshelf Services, is now out.

“Firefighters were called to the fire at 8:48 hours today.

“Fire crews from Chesterfield, Alfreton, Clay Cross with a water carrier, and Nottinghamshire’s Ashfield, remain on scene dampening down.

“Lane closures remain in place to allow for emergency services to deal with the incident.”

Traffic in the area is being diverted away, with National Highways telling motorists to follow the Hollow Triangle symbol.

At Junction 28 of the M1, they should exit onto the A38 eastbound for around 7.5km before taking the A6075 Mansfield and Ashfield Regeneration Route (MARR).

They should follow this road until it links up with the A617. From here, they can follow the westbound A617 and rejoin the M1 at Junction 29.

Traffic maps still show long delays on the M1 with a large stretch of the road seeing standstill or slow-moving traffic from the A6175 to the B6019.
